The chairwoman Ing-Wen Tsai proposed a new formulation for the cross-strait political discourse, the so-called "The harmonious and not clannish, clannish and not harmonious". This thesis employs semiotics of R. Barthes to be a theoretical foundation. This thesis contains the following research purposes. Firstly, I introduce Barthes' Semiotics, in particular, I point out not only the contents of Barthes's Semiotic analysis model, but also its implications in this study, which are as follows: a political discourse can be seen as an encodes sign. Secondly, I describe the development of the cross-strait political discourses in political parties in Taiwan, and it especially focuses on the background and relevant content of " The harmonious and not clannish, clannish and not harmonious" . Thirdly, I interpret "The harmonious and not clannish, clannish and not harmonious" by means of Barthes’ Semiotic analysis model. Its meaning-structure includes denotation on the language level and three cultural meanings (connotation, myth and symbol) on the mythology level. Fourthly, I make a reflection on the engagement in this thesis. In this aspect, I express which cultural meaning I prefer and the reason on the one hand, and I get what kind of inspiration from Barthes’ Semiotics , especially for my philosophy on life and my interpretation on news, on the other hand.
