The purpose of this study first is to comprehend the current state of crisis handling in self-injury cases, the competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases and the chronic stress of junior high school counselors. The next is to analyze the relationship between the number of self-injury cases and the competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases as well as the chronic stress of junior high school counselors. Finally, this study is going further to explore whether the competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases have moderation effect on the current state of crisis handling in self-injury cases and chronic stress. “Multi-Dimension Self-Injury Crisis Intervention Competencies Scale (MD-SCICS)” and “Chronic Stress Scale” are used as research instrument. Hypotheses as stated above were tested by using data collected from a sample of 252 junior high school counselors from Sep. 2020 to Jun. 2021 in Taiwan. The results of this study are as following: 1. The number of cases that school counselors dealt with is higher than the general advised by government and it has declined for years. Otherwise, most of the counselors have dealt with cases of self-injury students during Sep. 2020 to Jun. 2021. 2. The degree of perception of chronic stress for junior high school counselors tends to be on the low side. 3. The competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases tend to be in the high level. 4. As for the perception of chronic stress for junior high school counselors, there are significant differences in different ages, education level and the position of schools. 5. For the competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases, there is a significant difference in counselors in different ages. 6. The result of the study demonstrates that the number of self-injury cases can’t correlate with chronic stress. 7. The competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases are moderately and negatively related with chronic stress. 8. The study can’t predict whether the competencies of crisis handling in self-injury cases have moderation effect on the number of self-injury cases and chronic stress for junior high school counselors.
