How to maximize the total utility in the system is a crucial issue in wireless networks. This thesis sets utility functions for different categories of users (QoS and Best-Effort) and proposes a utility-based resource allocation algorithm for mixed traffic in wireless networks. The complexity of the proposed algorithm is very low compared to the reference scheme[10].Simulation results shows that the algorithm first gives certain degree of service assurance to QoS users. The remaining resource are shared by the QoS and Best-Effort users based on the marginal fair criterion. The proposed algorithm treats all users fairly and does not allocate too many resources to Best-Effort users with good channels.
