林樂培(1926年8月5日─)出生於澳門,在澳門聖若瑟修院接受音樂教育啟蒙,後移居香港持續參與音樂活動。1953-1964年先後至加拿大皇家音樂學院與美國南加州大學電影學院進修。1964年返港至1994年間,林樂培活躍於香港文化界,更是香港樂壇的中堅份子,在作曲、指揮、教學、評論、推廣新音樂、製作電視、電臺音樂節目等,都有很高的成就與貢獻,也獲得許多獎項。 他畢生致力於中國新音樂的發展,代表作品有《兩相歡》、《塵埃不見咸陽橋》、《東方之珠》、《突破》、《謝灶君》、《秋決》、《昆蟲世界》等,其創作「從傳統尋根,在前衛找路」,曾在51個城市演出。林樂培生平刊載於葛羅夫(Grove’s)音樂及音樂家辭典2001版本中,他對香港樂壇貢獻良多,其作品也啟發後輩作曲家,使他獲得「香港新音樂之父」的美譽。
Doming Lam (5 August, 1926 - ) was born in Macau. Enlightened by the music education in St. Joseph Seminary Church (Seminário e Igreja de São José), he continued participating in musical activities after moving to Hong Kong. In 1953-1964 Lam studied music at the Royal Conservatory in Toronto and the University of Southern California. During 1964-94, Doming Lam enlivens the cultural circles in Hong Kong. Furthermore, serving as the nucleus in Hong Kong musical circle, he not only makes high achievement but gain many awards in composing, conducting, teaching, commenting, popularizing “New Music” , and producing musical programs for TV and radio station. Domming Lam devotes his whole life to the development of “Chinese New Music”, and his famous music compositions include: Like is their Delight. The War Bridge. Sonata:Oriental Pearl. Breakthrough. Thanksgiving to Joe-Kwan(the Kitchen God). Autumn Execution. Insect Word. Integrating arts from convention to contemporary ages, Domming Lam’s compositions have been widely performed in 51 cities around the world. His biography is printed in Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians, 2001 edition. Lam has much contribution toward Hong Kong musical circles. Furthermore, his works not only inspire many young composers but make him win the reputation of “The father of Hong Kong New Music”.
