─非傳統科系的選擇─家政領域男學生就學經驗之探討

-The Selection of Nontraditional Major-The Learning Experiences of Male Students in Home Economics Major

摘要


本研究旨在探討男生選擇家政領域就讀之原因、瞭解男生在家政領域就讀之生活經驗與調適歷程、瞭解家政教學內可能存在之性別議題對男生的影響,以及探討男生對家政的期許與其自我成長。本研究以大學家政系畢業之男生為研究對象,採個別深度訪談與焦點團體訪談法,探究選擇家政系就讀之男生的學習經驗與調適歷程。本研究之主要發現如下: 一、求學過程中,男生身處性別少數的家政領域最需要也最缺乏的便是同性友伴的支持,亦缺乏男性的角色模範。研究對象對於適應環境所採取的共同策略:藉由時間的延長減低不適感、同性友伴的支持、以個人自我建構出的信念來突破傳統觀念,而僅將這段大學階段的家政學習視為是一種興趣而非做為未來可從事的生涯選擇。雖然是在女性佔大多數的家政領域裡,但是男性仍以男性中心的思考模式來生存。 二、在家政領域內,由於男性的個殊性以及高能見度,在班級活動中時常成為師長、同學關注的焦點。在性別少數的情況下,家政系的男生比較不敢表現自己的特質。一旦與女性意見相左時,他們採取的行動是保持沈默與低姿態,方能避免不被女生認同。且研究對象與女同學維持著一種表象姐妹滔的關係。 三、面對整個社會大環境,當研究對象所抱持的信念與現實情況衝突時,仍不免會產生矛盾的心理,質疑他們唸家政的價值何在。研究對象認為今日得以在家政領域內與不同性別者一起學習是一種非常難得的男女共學之體驗,如果有機會重新選擇,他們仍會選擇家政系。

The purposes of this research are to investigate the reasons of male students choose home economics as their major, explore their life experiences and self-adaptation during studying home economics, analyze the effects of the gender issues of home economic instruction in male students, and find out male students’ expectations of home economics and self-development. The subjects of this research are the male graduates from department of home economics. Individual in-depth interview and focus group interview are applied. The followings are the main findings: A. In the field of home economics, females outnumber male students. The support from male friends and male role model are the most needs of male students in home economics. These subjects utilize the same strategy of environment adaptation which are: time can erode the discomfort; the support from male friends; and reconstructing their own values and beliefs. These subjects regard studying in home economics as an interest but not a career. Even though females outnumber male students, male students still adopt male-centered thinking pattern for survival. B. Male students usually become the foci of teachers and classmates in home economics field. Outnumbered by females, male students are afraid of showing their personalities. They remain silent when conflicting with females, in order to be identified by females. Male students remain a “sisterhood” with female students. C. They query the choice of home economics as their major when encountering the conflict of traditional social values against their ideal. The male students consider it a precious opportunity to study with outnumbering female students in home economics. If they have chance to select again, home economics will be their choice again.
