摘要

本文旨在評論天下出版社出版之「混沌碰上華爾街」(The Predictors)的中文翻譯。論文分成五章，第一章說明筆者接下此書翻譯工作的背景，以及著手本譯評的研究動機及目的。第二章介紹該書的內容，以逐章說明的方式，解釋一群著名的物理學家借用混沌理論的緣由、經過及辛苦創業的過程。此外，並簡述坊間涵蓋混沌理論與金融投資雙重領域的中文翻譯書籍。並介紹作者的學經歷及該書的特色。第三章為譯評的主要部分，主要探討筆者的翻譯態度、原則、技巧，以及著手翻譯該書的過程。文中並以實例說明翻譯該書時，翻譯原則與技巧如何落實；同時並說明翻譯過程中所碰到的各種難題及解決方法。第四章從翻譯實務的角度出發，討論筆者與編輯的互動，並藉由譯文及編輯完稿的比對，從中探討誤譯的原因、學到的啟示以及未來避免重蹈覆轍的方法。此外，並從讀者反應，一探譯者與讀者間的關係。第五章總結各章的要旨，並提出從譯評中所歸納出的心得與建議，供自己、出版社及未來譯者參考。

This thesis is a commentary on the Chinese translation of the book, The Predictors, written by Thomas A. Bass. The title of the Chinese translation is literally "When Chaos Meets The Wall Street” and is published by the Common Wealth Publishing Company. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter provides the background to the motive and purpose of this paper. The second chapter provides a description of The Predictors on a chapter-by-chapter basis and a brief introduction of the author’s autobiography and the features of the book. The third chapter forms the bulk of this paper and deals with the translation process, the employment of translation principles and skills, the difficulties encountered, and the solutions to the difficulties. The fourth
chapter focuses on the contrastive analysis between the Chinese translation and the published text revised by the editor. A brief discussion of readers’reception is also included. The fifth chapter sums up the findings of the previous chapters and provides some suggestions derived from the translation of The Predictors.
