The effect of emitter location deviations for an ultrasonic positioning system is introduced in this thesis. The ultrasonic system has three sensors. These sensors are located at different apex of an equilateral triangle. An ultrasonic emitter is arranged at center of the equilateral triangle. In this thesis, the locations of all sensors are precisely correct, only the location deviations of the emitter are considered. To understand how serious the location deviation is, a small amount of deviation within ± 2 mm was added on X-direction or Y-direction of the emitter. To simplify the analysis on location deviation, the range finding error of the ultrasonic system is not considered in this thesis. Regarding the deviations’ effect, all discussions are limited to the area of ± 15 degree and 1-2 meters in front of the emitter.
