The implementation of SFAS No.10 brings concerns and debates on the pros and cons of it among enterprises, government, and academia. Prior studies relating to the impact of implementing SFAS NO.10 on firm performance are mixed. In my opinion, SFAS NO.10 doesn’t affect firm performance directly, it just enhances the relationship between the ability of inventory management and firm performance through more rigorous accounting standards. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate if SFAS NO.10 is a mediator of enhancing the relationship between inventory management and firm performance. In order to examine the role of SFAS NO.10 in mediating the relationship between inventory management and firm performance, the study sample includes all listed companies in Taiwan, and the study period is from 2006 to 2011. According to empirical results, the improvement of inventory managemanet leads to better company performance. Thus, companies should dedicate their effort to inventory management, then would create superior performance. In addition, the results also provide an evidence that the implementation of SFAS NO.10 is a mediator of enhancing the relationship between inventory management and performance. SFAS NO.10 can strengthen the relationship between inventory management and firm performance, and highlight the different performances between companies with different levels of inventory management ability. This results not only can rich the inefficiency of prior literature, but also explores the role of SFAS NO.10 in mediating the relationship between inventory management and performance. The empirical finding shows that accounting standards are not only the games of financial statements, but also have their economic consequences.
