近年來反射式膽固醇液晶顯示器被廣泛地研究,最主要是由於膽固醇液晶在無外加電場時,可以維持在反射態的planar結構及散射態的focal conic結構的這兩種穩態。由於是反射式的顯示器,所以不需背光源,因此具有低耗能且可達到輕薄短小的優點。 在本論文中,我們試著在玻璃基板上預先形成之protrusion及polymer wall來穩定膽固醇液晶。利用protrusion的cell來穩定膽固醇液晶只需加入少量的monomer來達到具有良好解析度及廣視角的效果。利用polymer wall來穩定膽固醇液晶不需再外加monomer就可以達到一個高對比及廣視角的雙穩態,並且可利單邊配向方式來取代雙邊配向,以節省製程成本及時間。
Recently years, choleesteric liquid crystal has been generally used to reflective display. Because of cholesteric liquid crystal than without extra voltage can be maintain the two stable structure, planar texture of reflective and focal conic texture of scatting. Because of with reflective display so that without back light, moreover than have the advantage of low consumption and light thin. In this study, we utilize protrusion and polymer wall to stabilize CLC films that were prepared before filling the LC/monomer mixture. We utilize pre-protrusion stabilize CLC films have wide viewing angle and excellent resolution with little monomer dopant(~5%). Utilize polymer wall stablize cholesteric liquid crystal without monomer dope, because itself can reach wide viewing angle and high contrast ratio, moreover with single alignment substrate save more fabrication cost and time than two alignment substrate.
