For cable faults, fast and accurate fault location is required for power restoration. In this thesis Impulse Reflection Method fault location for power cables is analyzed, The Electro-Magnetic Transient Program (EMTP) is used to build simulation model. And then fault location simulations for a TPC 161kV underground system are performed. In the simulation, voltage impulse is injected into the circuit to observe the phenomenon of pulse wave reflection which used to determine the fault position. The result shows that if the fault resistance lower than 30 ohms, the Impulse Reflection Method has a good effect on fault location for power cables.
