As one of primitive emotions of homo sapiens ,anxiety constantly influences how human beings behave as well as their products. To consider architecture as a representation of anxiety is to unveil various anxious scenarios faced by individuals and architects from the cover of rationality. Facing up the anxiety within architectural fields helps one to understand different coping systems for the sake of escaping from irrational feelings, and further to comprehend how anxiety affects one's thoughts and then its consequences. In this thesis, the researcher considers the reality of anxiety as an episteme with spectrum: from the representation of the objective facts of users' anxiety, to the reflection of the subjective experiences of architects' anxiety, aiming to build a dialectic approach between "knowledge" and "ways of doing knowledge." Through investigating the ontogeny of anxiety, architecture is used as a device of buffer or displacement against anxiety; when architecture itself becomes the situation triggering anxiety, architects tend to objectify or even deny the very fact. Lastly, the discussion of the predictive nature of architecture makes it obvious that architecture is destined to be anxious. The constantness of anxiety within architectural field makes one understand that it is no use dissolving the feeling with repression or neglect. On the contrary, anxiety as a hint is to assist architects to use a more subtle and delicate perspective to represent one's sensitivity onto architecture.
