Different from the information systems self-executed by individuals, virtual communities are established, developed and maintained by groups of people. Therefore, instead of predicting the usage of new technologies from the traditional individual intention (I-Intention), it would be more appropriate to explore and discuss the acceptance and adoption of collaborative technology from the view of group intention (We-Intention). Based on Social Influence Theory, this study explores the impacts of Subjective Norms, Social Identity, and Group Norms on users’ intention to participate in virtual communities. The samples were chosen from Facebook, a social network used by many Taiwanese people. After analyzing the 585 valid responses with Structural Equation Modeling, we could draw the following conclusions: (1)Desire and social identity had direct impacts on we-intention to participate in virtual communities. (2)Attitude, subjective norm, group norms and, social identity had direct impacts on desire.
