This research aimed to develop a low cost, easy to operate, fast, and high precision reverse laser scanning system. System in this research utilized a self-developed and self-manufactured system moving platform, a laser scanning system, and self-developed measuring software. Coordinate data of the soles of feet were captured by placing the feet on the machine, projecting laser light onto the soles from underneath, and then using the CCD camera to take a series of photos. The equipment is capable of capturing graphical data of the soles of feet. It can perform quick scan and calculate coordinates with high precision in order to generate various information of the curved surfaces of the soles of feet. The information can then be exported and used in producing customized foot-arch pads, insoles, soles of shoes, and other products. Thus, a low-cost, stable, and fast reverse laser scanning system was realized by utilizing image triangulation technique to measure coordinates and by integrating optical technology with a self-developed laser scanning module.
