Since 2010, the rapid development of electric vehicles has caused significant changes in the driving factors of the global automotive industry value chain and the automotive industry's foreign direct investment. Therefore, this study analyzes the global fuel and electric vehicle industry value chain and major auto companies' foreign direct investment cases, and empirically studies the impact of the electric vehicle industry value chain on China and the US auto industry's foreign direct investment. The study found that the foreign direct investment of China's auto industry is more focused on the semiconductor, electric motor, electronic control related technology of the electric vehicle industry, the global competitiveness of the host country and the interest rate of the home country. The US auto industry is more focused on the size of the auto market in the host country and the overall manufacturing level of the industry.
