Researchers of academic culture research have focused on the cross-cultural adaptation of the native English teachers in schools. However, few studies focus on native English teachers in Taiwan, especially related to their cross-cultural adjustment on educational organization and teaching. The aim of this research attempted to explore how the native English teachers have acclimated to the culture shock in schools in Taiwan. It also aimed at investigating what are the working and teaching expectations of the native English teachers’ correlates with their process of cross-cultural adjustment in order to adjust to the new academic cultural environment. The design of this study will be applied as a case study of qualitative research as part of this investigation. The social validity for assisting the validity of this research design will be set forth herein. The participants in this study will be the native English teachers, administration staff and students at a Department of Applied Foreign Language in a University of Technology in central Taiwan. The results of this research yielded positive evidence that interpersonal relationship, new hobbies and computer-mediated communication are the main elements of the cross-cultural adjustment. Also, the results show the cross-cultural trainings and local language courses may improve the adjustment for native English teachers. To conclude, this study may be of import in explaining the working and teaching expectations between native English teachers and the administrative staff as well as in providing useful suggestions for cross-cultural studies.
