觀賞不同字幕之英語卡通影片對台灣國小五年級學生英語聽力的影響

摘要


近年來,越來越多語言教師應用多媒體作為輔助教學工具。視聽教具是學生在學習一種新的語言時相當重要的輔助工具。此研究旨在探討觀看有無英文字幕之英語卡通影片對台灣國小五年級學生英語聽力理解的影響,同時也探討學生對於藉由觀看英語卡通影片學習英文的看法。此研究為包含一實驗組一控制組的實驗性研究。研究對象為65名台中的小學五年級學生。32個學生被隨機分配為英文字幕組,而33個學生為無字幕組。此實驗性研究時間為期約三個月,期間使用五部英語卡通影片作為輔助工具。研究工具包括聽力測驗、問卷以及焦點族群訪談。研究者使用劍橋小院士測驗初級測驗研究對象初試與後試的聽力理解。初試與後試的分數由獨立樣本T檢定分析。問卷分發給學生以得知學生的看法,在回收問卷後進行焦點族群訪談。希望此研究將能進一步提供英語教師對於孩子的英文聽力理解上視聽教學輔助工具的運用。

In recent years, multimedia is more and more applied as teaching materials by language teachers. Audio-visual aids are important and can help students’ learning while they are learning one language. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of English cartoon videos with and without English subtitles on fifth graders’ English listening comprehension in Taiwan. Students’ perceptions toward learning English through viewing English cartoon videos were explored. This study is an experimental study, involving one experimental group and one control group. The participants were 65 fifth graders in Taichung. Thirty-two students were divided into the English-subtitle group and 33 students were in the non-subtitle group. Five English cartoon videos were used as materials during three months. The researcher used Young Learners English Tests (YLE) Level One to test the participants’ initial and final English listening comprehension. The instruments include listening comprehension test, the questionnaires and the focus group interview. Test scores of the pre-test and post-test were analyzed by Independent Sample T-test at the end of the research. Questionnaires were distributed to the participants to know their perceptions. After receiving the questionnaires, focus group interview was conducted to get the students’ perceptions toward learning English with the use of cartoon videos. It was hoped that this study would provide English teachers a clear insight into applying visual-audio teaching materials in children’s listening comprehension.
