Researchers believe that the increase in insurance fraud may be associated with the unethical decisions that made by insurance salespeople. In the car insurance industry, renewal rate is an important factor that determines salespeople''s incomes. To obtain the renewal compensation, some insurance salespeople may help customers to do unethical things (e.g., provide untruthful information of the customers to the insurer) in exchange for the contract renewal. In order to better understand how the contract renewal can be related to insider frauds, by using car insurance industry as an example, this paper explores the impacts of risk and fraud sizes on car insurance salespeople''s ethical decision making in the situations involving contract renewal. Empirical research on contract renewal and insurance frauds is very rare. This study may make some contributions to insurance fraud research.
