我國盲用點字細胞尺寸研究

A Research on the Dimension of Braille Cell in Taiwan

摘要


視障者常需藉助於觸摸符號的輔助,利用觸摸、報讀系統以了解所處的周遭環境與獲取資訊。觸摸符號歸納為:點字與圖像,其中點字更是全盲者和部份弱視者獲取資訊的主要憑藉。點字是由六個固定圓點 (左右各三點) 排列組合所形成的點字記號,並呈現於各種材質表面之上。藉由這六點之凸起與否來表示各種意義。然而目前國內點字凸起的尺寸規範卻未有一定的標準,因此本研究在於探討國內盲用點字細胞尺寸在點字凸起的高度及其對於觸讀成效的影響,並探討出適當的高度。 本研究分為四個階段;現況調查、點字凸起高度對觸讀成效之影響、點字凸起高度之探討、點字凸起高度之觸讀成效實驗。首先蒐集現有坊間點字的相關產品、並經由三次元座標量測儀量測,發覺圓點直徑大小與凸起的高度都不一致且經由10位全盲受測者測試現有各種不同的點字高度,發現凸起的高度會影響觸讀成效;在參考國內外文獻、探討點字細胞尺寸規範後;接著應用電腦3D繪圖軟體、模擬點字細胞尺寸之圖形,尺寸由圓弧頂端半徑 (R) * 凸起高度 (h) 表示;經由電腦模擬後,挑選出圓弧頂端半徑數值為0.04、0.05和0.06mm,凸起高度數值為0.30、0.35、0.40、0.45、0.50和0.55mm,共有18種組合的點字細胞尺寸,再以ABS進行製作實驗模板。 觸讀成效實驗測試、商請24 位全盲者經由觸讀點字的實驗測試方式。並且以Durbin 檢定分析、再經過LSD檢定。結果顯示在觸讀時間與觸讀正確率以及易觸讀性與舒適度都有顯著差異。其中在觸讀時間與觸讀正確率以0.06*055mm的尺寸為最佳。希望藉此觸讀成效實驗研究結果能為國內盲用點字細胞尺寸規範的建立提供參考。

The visually impaired often need the help of Braille, using touch reading and sound reader systems to understand their surrounding environment and acquire information. All touch reading symbols can be generalized into Braille and icons. In which Braille is the main means which the blind and some individuals with low vision acquire information from. Braille cells comprise six dot positions (two columns with three dots each). Dots can be raised at any of the six positions to express various meanings. However, at present no standard exists for the height dots are raised. Therefore, this study explores the raised height of dots in Braille cells used in Taiwan Area and how they affect touch reading performance drawing a conclusion on the appropriate height. This study is divided into four stages: Current situation investigation, discussion of the influence of raised height on touch reading performance, discussion of raised dot heights, and an experiment to evaluate touch reading performance from different raised dot heights. In the beginning, Braille related products were collected from the market and then measured using a 3D coordinate measuring device. The diameter and height of raised dots were inconsistent throughout different products, and tests on 10 blind subjects showed that different heights of dots significantly affect touch reading performance. After domestic and foreign literature was reviewed and Braille cell dimension standards were discussed, a 3D graphics software was used to simulate images of Braille cells in different dimensions; dimensions are expressed with Radius (R) * Height (H). The radiuses 0.04, 0.05 and 0.06mm and heights 0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.45, 0.50 and 0.55mm were chosen to form a total of 18 Braille cell dimensions, and then ABS was utilized for producing the experiment’s templates. For the touch reading experiment, 24 blind participants were asked to read Braille text with different dot heights. The Durbin test was first employed for analysis and then the LSD test was applied whenever necessary. Results showed significant difference in not only time and accuracy, but also easiness and comfort of touch reading. In which the dimension 0.06*055mm provided the best results for both time and accuracy of touch reading. It hopes that findings of this research will provide a good reference for establishing standard Braille cell dimensions.
