The mobile phone service is not only transmitted by radio frequency from base station, it is also transmitted by fixed optical transmission network. The signaling and traffic of MSC exchanges are also transmitted on optical transmission network. Therefore, we have to consider not only the coverage of the base station but also the quality of transmission optical network. When backbone or regional network encounter double failures like fiber cables break or equipment failures, it will cause a lot of base stations disconnected to BSC and lose connection with customer’s mobile phone. At this time, the protection of rings are not able to work properly. We have to wait until one failure is repaired by the field engineer. Hence, the method of protection schemes really matter the service of mobile phone as well. This thesis presents the planning and improvement of the CDMA transmission network for mobile phone services. We investigate the traffic of mobile phone service in order to achieve better path protection in mobile cellular network. MS-SPRING+SNCP method and ASON PRC+GR method are proposed to improve the efficiency of current transmission network.
