Seeing the need to enhancethe character education for the students during the course of teaching, the thematic approach was integrated into the course together with illustration. In their actual application in teaching, the students were required to create illustrations, thus understanding the underlying meaning of the images. This study was set out to answer the following questions: 1)Could the students produce better illustrationsafter the thematic approach was adopted? 2) Will the character education for the students be improved after the teacher brings in the subject by story-telling and integrates illustration into the teaching? 3) What are the students' learning outcomes after the teacher integrates illustration into the curriculum for the integrated activities learning area as part of the action research? It was hoped that the students couldhave a greater "self-confidence" andforsake undue behaviors in an imperceptible mannerafter the integration of illustration into the integrated activities. This study used the following research methods: classroom observation, content analysis, expert interview and questionnaire. This study generated the following conclusions: by designing the integrated activities curriculum and integrating illustration storybooks into the teaching, it was possible for the teacher to motivate the students toward creative activities and stimulate them to develop unique styles. As a result, the students learned to think independently and get better along with their peers, thus improving the character education. From this study, the researcher understood that creation could nurture people's mind and increase the opportunities for students to explore themselves. It is therefore suggested that teachers of integrated activities integrate courses from other areas into their teaching in the future. It is hoped that this study will benefit future teachers engaged in the teaching of integrated activities. Keywords: Illustration, integrated activities, action research
