布拉姆斯為單簧管創作的樂曲共有四首,有《f小調第一號單簧管奏鳴曲》(Clarinet Sonata No. 1, Op. 120 in F minor)、《降E大調第二號單簧管奏鳴曲》(Clarinet Sonata No. 2, Op. 120 in E flat major)、《a小調單簧管三重奏,作品114》(Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114)、《B小調單簧管五重奏》(Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115),創作時期都集中在晚年 。
Brahms was a German composer, conductor and pianist. He maintained an objective and conservative classical style with romantic writing techniques, following the traditional style and form of music as well as his characteristic lyrical and strong emotional music. Brahms has written four pieces for the clarinet and piano, including Clarinet Sonata No. 1, Op. 120 in F minor、Clarinet Sonata No. 2, Op. 120 in E flat major、Clarinet Trio in a minor, Op. 114 and Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115. In his old age, Brahms wrote many important works. In 1891 he attended one concert and listened to a wonderful performance by the clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld. Brahms was inspired by Richard Mühlfeld and started to compose these important works. This essay focus on Clarinet Sonata No. 1, Op. 120 in F minor by Brahms, and is divided into five chapters for description and discussion. The first chapter begins with a description of the motivation and purpose of the study and the methods and steps of the study. The second will describe the life of Brahms and his musical characteristics and creative writing background. The third chapter analyzes the form and characteristics of music in detail. In the fourth chapter, the author will stand in the perspective of the clarinet player to explore the interpretation of this work. The last chapter will summarize the focus of the study. I’m looking forward to understanding Brahms’s musical connotation of this research process.
