Local residents’ attitude and intentional actions toward ecotourism has been widely considered a crucial factor for success in ecotourism development.. In this study, local residents’ attitude and intentional actions toward ecotourism, and the association among demographic variables, attitude and behavior were investigated. This study incorporated a thorough review of research findings with regard to this topic. Furthermore, a resudents’ attitude and intentional actions toward ecotourism development questionnaire was designed to measure dimensions including economic development, social psychology, environmental protection, and administrative policy. These four dimensions were assumed to have profoundly influenced the development of local ecotourism. Conclusions based on this survey are as followings— 1.While residents have affirmative attitude towards economic development, social psychology, and environmental protection, they tend to disagree with administrative policies. 2.The majority of residents have sophisticated recognition regarding ecotourism, and are willing to corporate with local government. Among those four dimensions, they have significantly more positive responds with respect to economic development and environmental protection. 3.Demographic variables are significantly associated with the differences of attitudes as well as intentional actions regarding the development of ecotourism. 4.Residents’ attitude towards ecotourism interact with their intentional actions significantly, while demographic variables cannot predict the interaction.
