Impact of Complications on Hospitalization Cost for Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus in Taiwan
摘要
The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of complications on hospitalization cost for patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Taiwan. The research examine whether diabetic patients with complications, increasing number of admission and length of stay have significantly influence cost for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our study shows that cost in the private for profit hospital more costly than public and not for profit hospital. Private for profit hospital tends to incur higher expenditure per day for maximizing profit and focusing to earn profit. The district hospital was cheaper that medical centre and regional. District hospital is less using of complex technology at district hospital than regional and medical centre. On other hand, hospital located at medical centre revealed higher cost than other due to the fact that more patient visit medical centre to get more performance of treatment. The onset age for diabetes mellitus beginning at 65 years old, increasing age will increase the cost of hospitalization. Moreover, the cost for complication group between sexes indicated that female more costly and more elder than male. Diabetic with complication costly since patient requires laboratory examination, more hospitalization, and multiple therapies with more intensive and complex of rehabilitation.
