The purpose of this study was to explore the critical incidents influencing group members’ premature termination and their decision-making. Six members who dropped out from a growth or psycho-educational group were the participants of the study. The data was analyzed by a qualitative method. The data was collected by semi-structured interviews and analyzed by a basic qualitative method. The results are as follows: 1. The critical incidents that influence group members’ premature termination include 5 factors: “leading style”, “atmosphere”, “not benefiting from the group”, “other members’ characteristics and behaviors”, and “external events”. 2. The decision-making process includes 2 steps: “critical incidents took place”, and “considering whether to leave”. The consideration is affected by “motivation” and “internal thoughts”. 3. The possible conditions or situations that members would likely to stay were analyzed into six categories, including: “diversified group programs”, “leader can perceive group dynamic and intervention immediately”, “leader possesses positive and humorous characteristics”, “the topics of group met members' needs”, “group atmosphere is open and easy”, and “the characteristics of the members are alike”. Finally, according to the research results mentioned above, some suggestions were given to the counseling practitioners, counseling educators and the future researchers.
