Ecumenism in a Polarized and Polarizing World Reconstruction in the Twenty-First Century

並列摘要

The world of the 21st century is a polarized and polarizing world. As the Christian churches re-envi-sion their future ecumenical efforts, they have to take seriously the world of plurality and diversity created by God. The one church united in faith and action that dictated the ecumenical efforts of the past must yield to the ecumenism of people in local communities striving for compassion, peace and reconciliation, people who are in search of spiritual well-being and meaning of life. What is proposed in this address is ecumenism of the Spirit, the rule of God, understanding and compassion. Christians alone cannot carry out such ecumenism. It has to be the ecumenism involving people of different faiths, traditions and backguounds, people who devote them-selves to building local communities for the betterment of life and the world. After all, this is the ecumenism of God's rule Jesus practiced during his life ministry.
