論口譯的價值與價格

the Market Value and Market Price of Oral Interpretation

摘要


迄今對於口譯的評鑑或測驗研究,重心往往置於教學成效的評定。口譯的評鑑似乎僅以各階段的教學理想為目標,而未曾由市場價值的觀點來衡量口譯。事實上,口譯在專業性質上並非「展示」或「演出」,而是一種服務市場的職業。因此,有必要從市場客戶的觀點與需求,針對口譯工作做客觀的描述,並從工作描述中歸納出工作的標準、特性與市場價值,以促進口譯工作的發展。 透過市場交易上通行的符碼-「價格」-來分析口譯,就可根據工作的難易程度以及供需是否平衡等因素來評估口譯的服務價值,並進而制訂對於供需雙方都屬公平的市場規範。如此將有益於雙方在面對同一工作時,共同建立更切合目標、更簡易可行且更公正公開的管理原則。本文將從下列項目探討口譯的市場價值與價格之間的關係: 1.需求急迫程度2.整體獲利效應3.組織協調功能4.工作時數負荷5.口譯背景知識6.口譯專業技能 藉由上述各項的交叉分析,可以觀察出市場需求的複雜與多變,也可以明確地顯現口譯的市場價值,並進一步把市場價值量化為市場價格。而市場價格與需求的消長,又可以反饋(feedback)到教學課程的規劃,針對不同的市場需求及早規劃出確實回應實際需求的訓練課程。

In the past, studies on the evaluation or testing of oral interpretation have mostly focused on the result of teaching, and scholars may have been concerned about a course’s effect, but never its market value. As a profession, oral interpretation is not an exhibition or a performance, but a service industry. Therefore, it is necessary to describe the contents of oral interpretation from the client’s perspective in order to understand the standards, the characteristics and the market value of this career, which will aid in the further development of the market for oral interpretation. If we try to analyze oral interpretation, on the basis of price, a common signifier used for discussing transactions. We will be able to assess the value of oral Interpretation according to the difficulty of the case or the balance between supply and demand, and then establish a model fair to both interpreters and clients. In this way, the interpreters and the clients will be set up principles of management that are really practical, equitable and satisfactory to both parties. This essay will discuss the relationship between the market value and the price of oral interpretation from the perspectives listed below: 1. How urgent the demand is 2. Overall profits 3. Coordination of interpreting services 4. Work loads and work hours 5. The background knowledge require for oral interpretation 6. The professional skills require for oral interpretation From across-analysis of the above items, we can observe the complexity and variety of market needs, which will clearly show the market value of oral interpretation. Then, we will be able to transform the abstract market value into a concrete market price. Analysis of the fluctuations in market price and demand provide useful feedback that will allow us, as early as possible, to design training courses that truly respond to actual market demands.
