摘要
造成顏面神經麻痺的原因很多，其中最常見的是「特發性顏面神經麻痺」又稱為「貝爾氏麻痺」（Bell's palsy）。此名的由來是來自查爾斯‧貝爾爵士，他在西元一八二一年發表文獻，指出臉部的運動和感覺是由不同的神經支配的。貝爾氏麻痺是相當常見的疾病，據統計每年在十萬人當中，就有十五至四十個病例。此病在發病初期的進展是很快速的，通常在兩天內顏面神經麻痺的程度會達到巔峰，而在發病前，常有類似感冒或其他病毒感染的症狀。顏面神經麻痺的主要症狀是嘴歪、眼皮不能閉合、流眼淚、味覺障礙、食物在口內有停滯感、喝水會流出來等，別人看來是嘴歪、眼斜的印象，對病人的身心都造成不少的影響。

There are many causes for the facial palsy. The most common one is the ”acute idiopathic facial palsy”, which is also called ”Bell's palsy”. This name comes from Knight Charles Bell. He reported a paper in 1821, and pointed out the motion and sensory of face was controlled by different nerve. Bell's palsy is a much common disease. According to the statistics, there are 15 to 40 cases in 100,000 people per year. The progress of this disease is much fast at the initial stage, the degree of facial nerve paralysis will reach peak within two days usually. Before episode, there are often symptoms similar to the cold or other virus infection.The main symptoms of the facial palsy include the mouth is skew, the eyelid can not close, the tears shed, the sense of taste has obstacle, the food stays in the mouth, and the drinking water will flow out etc. The impression of skew mouth and oblique eyes will be seen by other people. It will cause much influence on the body and mind of patient.
