The care of peritoneal dialysis (PD) includes educational training after PD catheter implantation by PD nurses and PD performance by patient self after discharge. Literature review indicated there was an association of PD-related peritonitis incidence due to PD technique and home environment. It is well-recognized that PD-related peritonitis prone to develop in patients with poor compliance to standard PD technique. Home visiting provides an evaluation of home environment and PD technique. Therefore, a potential factor for peritonitis can thus be identified. PD nurses can start over training program based on the results of home visiting to reduce peritonitis and improvecompliance of patients. In conclusion, home visiting is essential for a complete PD care.
