This case is a 36-year-old unmarried woman who has been suffered from menstrual cramps in her left lower abdomen for 20 years. She underwent left ovarian cystectomy for abnormal uterine bleeding, and an ultrasound diagnosis was adenomyosis seven years ago. Due to work pressure and mental stress, dysmenorrhea was worsened in the past two months. When she sought treatment at our traditional Chinese medicine clinic on July 16, she was undergoing a pre-ovulation period. Her TCM patterns were the combination of coagulated cold in the womb, qi stagnation, blood stasis, and liver qi stagnation. The treatment principles were warming meridian, dispersing cold, conducting qi, dispelling blood stasis, and relieving stagnated liver qi. On August 2nd, menstrual pain in the left lower abdomen decreased. She continued to take Chinese medicine to treat dysmenorrhea. She has no menstrual pain in the left lower abdominal during her period in September.
