Those research used the data from 56 female freshmen of Chung Yuan Christian University where they learned volleyball in athletic classes on the first semester 84 academic year 1995. I tried to find out (1) the relativity between two basic techniques and the performances of volleyball front-over-head pass. (2) the different effects caused by different ways of teaching students front-over-head pass. (3) the different reactions caused when students were taught front-overhead pass part through mastery learning method part through traditional learning method. These preliminary results obtained from the analytic data revealed that 1. The learning effect accomplished: After the training of mastery learning model in volleyball front- over-head pass we measured the final performances in two groups. The data showed that, in a significant level (p<.05), students in experimental group had better performances than those in closely-controlled group. It made us believe that technically mastery learning model is better than traditional training. 2. The relativity among research items: The front-overhead pass is more basical among all the techniques for a volleyball player. After the statistic data obtained we found there is plenty of proof that there are two basic technique tests closely related to the learning offect of front-over-head pass among all the research items which we surmised might influence the learning a lot. 3.The mutuality achived: Although, there was no noticeable discrepancy between the opinion -surveys in two groups, the students who were trained with mastery learning method took more positive attitude to what they learned. They also found themselves interested in establishing good habits of learning by themselves and new friendships between classmates who helped each other in the learning process. 4. Mastery learning model is an effective training method. And it is very helpful to technical learning.
