Electronic industry and textile industry are two representative industries in Taiwan. Electronic industry, not only with high technology and high value-added, but also is a quick expanding strategic industry. Textile industry on the other hand, with high labor-concentrate and low value-added, is categoried into declining industries. The purpose of this study is to examine the association between industry characteristics and pay design. In the comparative process, this study adopts the ”four pay-design factors model ”as a analytic framework. Besides, this study collects practical data from large electronic and textile companies. Statistic analysis will show that there are some differences on the abolute levels and relative percentages of four pay-design factors between electronic industry and textile industry. In the absolute levels, electronic industry adopts the higher level than textile industry on each pay-design factor --hygiene-based pay, job-based pay, performance-based pay, and skill-based pay. In the relative percentages, electronic industry adopts the higher percentage on job-based pay and skill-based pay. And textile industry adopts the higher percentage on hygiene-based pay and performance-based pay.
