World-wide ecological and environmental crisis, under the name of ”global change”, have became a life and death problem. Various measures ranging from technological, economic and social aspects are proposed to tackle the problems threatening to ”our common future.” Revolutionary ways of thinking and action, namely, environmental revolution proposed by Lester Brown, are needed to integrate each of these aspects. That is to say, quiet and peaceful revolution through paradigm shift is responsible for ”changing globe” in challenging ”global change.” This essay presents discourses of paradigm shift in both classic and modern versions. Adopting a ”paired concepts”, paradigms are shifted from pro-growth to pro-environment based on different cultural themes. Two axes of cultural theme, ways of life and ways of thinking, are discussed in promoting positive paradigm shift. In the conclusion, paradigm transaction is addressed to replace and upgrade paradigm shift without at the expense of ”trail and error.”
