On the Necessity of General Education in Taiwan's Medical Education

摘要

本文主旨在於扣緊現階段國內大學醫學教育之脈絡，申論大學通識教育之重要性，指出通識教育的提昇是改善國內醫學教育的重要前提之一。為了論證這項主張，本文第二節首先辨明通識教育之定義，並就其重要性略加申論。第三節從回顧與前瞻兩個觀點，分析國內醫學教育亟需通識教育之理由。第四節就在國內醫學校院中推動通識教育之教學原則、教學方法以及課程規劃等具體問題，提出建議。第五節則綜合全文論點提出結論性之看法。
本文指出：醫學院校的通識教育必須以激發學生「心靈的覺醒」為目標，只有經過這種心靈的覺醒，醫學生才會將醫療事業當作一種神聖的「召喚」(calling)，而不是一種謀生的職業。只有這樣的醫學專業與人文通識平衡的醫學教育，才能造就「視病如傷」乃至「視病如師」的悲憫胸懷。本文第四節也建議以「師生互為主體性」教學法、「群體教學」法，以及創造校園文化等途徑，經由通識教育課程教學或講座，以實踐「心之覺醒」的教育。

This article attempts at analyzing the importance and its implementation of general education in the medical education in present-day Taiwan. After making some inductory remarks in section one, we offer a definition of general education (section 2). Moreover, we discuss the necessity of general education program in Taiwan's medical education (section 3). Such issues as the pedagogical principles, teaching methods and curriculum development are also discussed in section 4. The final section 5 reaches some conclusions pertaining to the reform of medical education in the Taiwan context.
