The Attitude to Death among Students in a Medical School at Southern Taiwan

A questionnaire related to death attitude was tested in 325 students at Medical School, National Cheng Kung University. It contains 20 items. After measuring the internal concordance, principle component analysis and subsequent oblimin rotation, four factors were fomulated: anxiety and fear, avoiding and running-away, philosophical and mysterious thinking, and reality facing. The clinical parameters of students were evaluated among different factors and correlation obtained. The results showed that the reality facing response was affected by the parameter of reading the books of thanantology only. Therefore, the teaching of thanantology is quite important since it would help the student to develop the realistic attitude in facing dying and death.
