摘要

自1967年英國的Cicely Saunders醫師設立聖克里斯多夫安寧院以來，提供新醫療服務模式的現代安寧緩和療護理念已快速地在歐、美、亞洲各國發展。世界衛生組織已於1990年起正式在國際層次肯定強調「整體性個人關懷」的安寧緩和療護理念，並且訂定安寧緩和療護基本原則。而「整體性個人關懷」的醫學根源，可追溯到公元前400年左右，由希波克拉提斯所提出的人文主義的醫學。

St. Christopher's hospice has been founded since 1967 by Cicely Saunders, which provides a newer nursing and medical speciality under the heading of palliative care. This modern model of care service has already expended in Europe, America and Asia. World Health Organization has since 1990 formally recognized and promoted the principles of palliative care, which are concerned with control of the 'total pain'. These concerns could be traced back to the Hippocratic humane medicine 400 B.C..
