The mechanical properties of 1.28% Cu-ductile irons austempering of 260, 315, 355 and 400°C were studied. Then, the fracture toughness was compared with the highest value of impact toughness of those specimens. The result show that the elongation and impact roughness had better reflection of the microstructure changes than strength and hardness. The austempering time of specimens with the highest value of impact toughness, 120 min for 400°C and 210 min for others, increased with decreasing in austempering temperature. The data also show that the variations of K(subscript 1C) and J(subscript 1C) were coincided with the change of impact toughness. But the fracture toughness index (K(subscript 1C)/σ(subscript ys)) increased with increasing in austempering temperature.
