Is Taipei Songshan a suitable airport for cross-strait direct flight? This question involves many factors on different aspects such as politics, economy, national security, transportation, urban development and environmental impact. There were quite a lot of discussions before the Taipei city mayoral election in 2002. The then mayoral candidate; Ma Ying-jeou; believed that if direct flight between Taipei City and Shanghai took only 80 minutes, businessmen could travel back and forth within the same day, they would not necessarily to have their headquarters in Mainland China, it would be helpful for maintaining their core business in Taiwan. Accordingly, he suggested that Songshan Airport should be taken into account as one of the options for cross-strait direct flight. This study is an analysis based on SWOT, it will examine the question again for further understanding.
