This paper denotes the training program of middle ear surgery for residents of otolaryngology at the National Taiwan University Hospital. The program can be divided sequentially into two parts, i.e., the presubspecialty course and the subspecialty training. The former is a preparation task which includes routine examination, preoperative and postoperative care of the otologic patients, the audiologic, neurotologic and basic science training courses, and finally the temporal bone course. In the latter part, within a period of 3 months, the trainees have chances to receive technical instruction in detail through video in a one-one-one way while they participate in the operation with the instructor. The residents under this training program are also requested to present academic topics in the otologic conference with is held once every other week in the department.
