Hyperthyroidism and thyroid nodule are not rare, and antithyroid drugs are widely used in Otolaryngologic field. Generally speaking, the side effect of antithyroid drugs is rare. The agranulocytosis is the most severe side effect. The cause rate of agranulocytosis is less than 0.5%. In Dec..1995, we had a case of agranulocytosis that was caused by antithyroid drugs (tapazole 10 mg/day) for 1 month. High fever, sore throat and general malaise were the symptoms. After physical examinations, acute tonsillitis and acute epiglottitis were diagnosed. And the laboratory data showed: WBC: 290 cells/mm³(Seg:3.4% Lym: 89.7% Mono: 6.9%). After antibiotics and G-CSF being used, WBC returned to 7600 cells/mm³ on the 16th hospital day. The patient recovered well under the treatments.
