There were 3560 patients who came from the southern part of Taiwan receiving aesthetic surgery in CGMH at Kaohsiung between Jan. 1986 and Dee. 1993. Half of the patients underwent scar revision and pigmentation treatment. The other half in order were eyelids surgery, nose surgery, breast surgery and contouring surgery. Most patients came from Kaohsiung, Pingtung, and Tainan area. The male and female ratio was 1:3. Overall complication rate was 2.1%. Questionnaires revealed that 67% of patients were satisfied with the result of aesthetic surgery, but less in scar surgery (57%). 33% of patients were unsatisfied with the treatment cost, but 91% of patients were satisfied with the hospital service. Some discrepancy occurred in the questionnaires and charts documented for complications. There must be an adequate preoperative communication and positive interaction in order to map out an acceptable path for treatment.
