Intestinal parasitosis is a common disease in Hualicn Area. There were 13 cases of intestinal parasitosis diagnosed during a 3 year peroid from 1984 to 1987. There were 9 cases of Ascariasis, 3 strongyloidiasis and 1 clonorchiasis. These parasites distributed in stomach (3 cases), duodenum (8 cases) and biliary tract (2 cases) respectively. All these patients came from the Hualien Aboriginal communities. The chief complaints were mainly upper abdominal discomfort. The endoscopic findings were dramatic but the intestinal mucosal change were non-specific. The parasite life cycle and their characteristic presentation in association with the endoscopic findings were discussed. Routine stool examination is still the recommended work-up in the endemic region.
