This study took the character's mask-like makeup in Chinese opera as the research subject, and tried to analyze its color, lines, patterns, language, and the transfer of learning. In addition, the paper explained the similarity, association, option, likeness, resemblance, and particularity between the image of mask-like makeup and semiotics. Furthermore, it described the evolution and development of the art of mask-like makeup. Also, it revealed the structure and the application to Chinese opera. This study discussed different thinking about the facial mask-like makeup in tradition and post-contemporary with literature reviews and data analysis. It provided a good example for people working in cosmetic field and wished to be more creative and distinctive in design.
