Taiwanese Students' Perceptions: English Journal Articles in Content Classes

並列摘要

Current research indicates that authentic teaching materials play an important role in teaching and learning. Many studies also suggest that for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners, English reading ability is considered a critical factor that affects students' learning process. The purpose of this research was to have a closer look at EFL learners' perceptions of English reading using English journal articles in content classes in Taiwan. In this study, the researcher attempted to answer the following question: how does using English journal articles which are about education in an education course impact Taiwanese university students' English reading? A case study approach was employed, and interviews were used for collecting data. Participants were two Taiwanese university students enrolled in an education course. Five central themes emerged and were established by categorical aggregation to represent two participants' perceptions. The themes are: worry, challenge and overcome, lots of learning, pleasant experience, and further English reading.
