雲端運算和數據機房冷卻技術發展

Evolution of Cooling Technology for Cloud Computing Data Center

摘要


隨著「雲端運算」的概念的日益普及,以及其潛在的資訊服務商機,使得我國資訊業者無不積極投入,然而在這名詞的背後其實質的意義為何?對於空調產業又有何產業機會?其實並不很清楚甚至有些混淆。本文整理回顧相當多的文獻,嘗試說明貨櫃式雲端運算數據機房和傳統集中式數據機房在資訊運算硬體建置和服務提供的差異。大型雲端運算數據機房多數配置在高緯度地域性以利用低廉的電力和自然冷卻,我國具有資訊設備研發製造優勢,也有良好的網路基礎建設,然而位處亞熱帶氣候地域,這樣的特色將更有機會發展優良PUE值的高性能模組化貨櫃式機房。未來結合資訊較硬體和冷卻電力系統,將可提供全球整合性的雲端數據機房服務方案。

Cloud computing is a new and promising paradigm delivering a large amount of IT services. As ”cloud computing” becomes so prevailing at this time, its practical meaning and the impact on HVAC industry are still opaque and sometimes even confusing to the publics. This article reviews many publications relevant to cloud computing, and intends to explain the differences between the traditional centralized data center and the new modularized container data center in terms of the services provided and the hardware used. Large scale cloud computing data centers are mainly located in the geographic zones with high latitude to take advantages of cheaper power and free cooling. Taiwan has a vey strong IT industry and good network infrastructure, but is located in the sub-tropical zone with hot and humid climate. These unique characters grant us a great opportunity to develop high performance container modularized data centers with competitive PUE value. Therefore, it can be a pursuable goal to provide a total solution including integrated IT, power and cooling equipment for cloud computing to the world market.
