摘要

閩南語[pe?8 ts^hat8]一詞有說謊、謊言之義。早在1863年以前就有記錄，其語源究竟為何，歷來眾說紛紜，其中以「白賊」最為常見，此外亦有「白扯」、「白漆」、「弗實」、「不實」、「拔舌」、「浮說」等說法。在音韻上，除了「白賊」之外，其餘與[pe?8 ts^hat8]的音讀都有或多或少的隔閡；在字義上，以「白賊」、「白扯」、「弗實」、「不實」、「拔舌」、「浮說」等和「謊言」義有關聯性，而「白漆」則和「謊言」義差距甚遠。本文藉由音義分析以及親屬語言之間的比對，得出[pe?8 ts^hat8]一詞的語源，以「白賊」的可能性最高。
