As the country with the biggest territory and the strongest economic power in the central Asia, Kazakhstan plays an important role in the area. Its strategic goal is clear: to base its country in Euro-Asia and to lead the central Asia. Kazakhstan's abundant energy resources are the bargaining chips to fulfill its national security strategy. Caspian Sea, the biggest inland lake in the world, lies to the west of Kazakhstan and owns, owns 200 billion barrels of crude oil as estimated by the U.S. Department of Energy. The sovereignty over Caspian Sea has thus been an unsolved issue for its neighboring states. To safeguard the oil resources in Caspian Sea, Kazakhstan initiated the navy establishment plans in 2007. And the U.S. and NATO expressed their support for the plans. Based on the strategic viewpoint, this article discussed Kazakhstan's national security strategy and the strategic implications behind Kazakhstan's navy establishment.
