Triple jump is one of the jumping events in track and field. By using the velocity achieved during approaching run, the athlete needs to complete three different and continuous jump techniques, such as hop, step and jump. The distant made is based on the effort distribution during these three phases. The phase ratios, which have significant effects in the jumping distant, are considered to the most important factors in evaluating the effort distribution in every athlete. They are also primary concerns during the analysis in triple jump techniques. The purposes of this study were to give the better understanding about phase ratios for coaches and athletes and also provide reference for the future improvement. By reviewing previous researches, this study was conducted in the following contents: 1) the development in triple jump, 2) the classification of triple jump techniques, 3) the analysis of phase ratios data in world elite athletes, 4) the optimal phase ratios in triple jump, and 5) one single subject study.
