圖文傳播藝術學生專題研究論文寫作常見缺失分析

Common Errors Made by Students of Graphic Communication in Writing of Research Reports, Journal Articles and Dissertations

摘要


本研究旨在以行動研究法結合內容分析探討圖文傳播藝術學生專題研究論文寫作常見之缺失,將論文審查、學位考試審查等教學現場發現的寫作問題加以整理、分類和歸納,以作為未來教學改進的參考。本研究獲致如下結論:(一)常見的科學論文結構為IMRAD;論文寫作規準主要採用美國心理學會的出版品手冊(APA Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association) 格式。(二)論文應注意項目有六個層面:文章結構、文獻引用、參考文獻、圖表製作、數字與統計符號,以及其他常用格式。(三)論文寫作常見之缺失,外顯結構分為:論文體例、文獻引用、排版格式、標點符號、圖表呈現等缺失;內容描述分為:摘要、緒論、文獻探討、結果討論與解釋、內容本身等缺失;研究設計與實施則分為,研究方法、研究工具與統計數據等缺失。具體而言,包括論文基本格式未能合乎規定,內容引用文獻和參考文獻引註不符合格式或者未加註明而侵犯他人權益,摘要內容未達簡要並充份表達論文的重要內容,研究的背景、理念和重要性的敘述不夠簡明扼要,文獻探討未能承先啟後,採用的研究方法適切性未說明,研究工具的信度和效度不理想等。本研究結果將可作為大學在論文寫作教學改進之參考,以提升大學生和研究生論文寫作之品質。

Purpose of research: While reviewing graduate students' dissertation proposals, conference papers, journal articles as well as their thesis and dissertations examinations over the years, numerous errors could be found repeatedly made by students in writing of project research reports. This study was carried out to identify those common errors routinely made by Graphic Communication students and help them improve their research report and thesis writing skills. The research methods involved conducting of Action Research and Content Analysis on students' papers, research proposals and dissertation examinations. The study found: 1). The common scientific paper structure was applied in IMRAD format; 2). Both undergraduate and graduate students of all five Graphic Arts and Communication Departments in Taiwan's colleges and universities followed American Psychological Society's (APA) Publication Manual, as a guideline in writing research papers or dissertations; Moreover, there were six domains that should be noted on dissertation writings by students of Graphic Communication, which were 1) Manuscript Format, 2) In-Text Citation Formats, 3) Reference Formats, 4) Construction of Tables and Figures, 5) Digital and Statistical Symbols (Punctuating statistics), and 6) Other Formats, respectively. Conclusions of the study: Common paper (manuscript) errors can be divided into structural errors; rhetorical errors and research design and implementation. Common structural errors in manuscript format included citation errors, typographical errors, punctuation errors, grammatical mistakes, etc. Rhetorical or research design structural errors commonly made in thesis writing were logic, factual or knowledge errors, etc. Research recommendations: drafts or manuscripts of research reports were just raw, unfinished materials far away from their final printing forms. Students should carefully review their research reports as well as thesis and dissertation writings, correct common errors and mistakes mentioned by this study, ensure there were no any ethics violations issues, before presenting or publishing their research reports, journals articles or dissertations.
