Neurasthenia, the most common syndrome and functional disease in neurosis, is characterized as brain cortex malfunction because of several syndromes but without physical signs which are difficult to be diagnosed. Neurasthenia belongs to depression pattern or hysteria in TCM. This article offers personal opinions on its historical review, pathology characteristic, cause and mechanism of disease, mechanism research, pattern identification and treatment, treatment research and reflection.
