Developing an Approach for Decomposing the User Expected Command Path-Pattern

The purpose of this research is to develop the User Expected Command Location Predicting Approach (UECLPA) and verify the performance of this UECLPA in converting user expected command location with case study and new and original user interface comparing. The approach proposed in this research is mainly based on the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) to analyze user expected command location on software user interface. The UECLPA can not only interpret the anticipated ideas of user command location but also directly transform interpreted user expected command location into a command path of a correlation structure stratum diagram. Results of testing the UECLPA by case study and new and original user interface comparing are as follows: (1) the UECLPA can convert user expected command location into a command path of a correlation structure stratum diagram directly indeed; (2) an software user interface designed by the UECLPA (new user interface) really helps searches the target command, and so doesn't the original software user interface. For example, it took a very short period of time for the user to search the target command by new user interface. On the contrary, it took a longer period of time for the user to search the target command by using original user interface. It proves that the UECLPA can convert user expected command location. Accordingly, two suggestions are presented in this research as follows: (1) interface designers should understand users' ideas and requirements for the command locations on the software user interface before designing and arranging the command locations on the software user interface; (2) interface designers can apply the UECLPA to understand and interpret users' ideas and requirements for the command locations on the software user interface so that design reference and basis of the command locations on the user interface is established.
